Whole School Framework

A whole-school approach is vital to improving pupil’s progression in subjects that are not normally taught in the curriculum, which encompass STEM and PSHE subjects, helping to keep them safe, improve behaviour and raise achievement.

Vantage Education follows 6 principles for a whole-school enrichment approach, in the context of the current Ofsted Framework and related judgements, which are –

  • Ethos and environment
  • Curriculum, teaching and learning
  • Pupil Voice
  • Staff Development
  • Working with parents / carers
  • Targeted support

The key areas guiding our whole school approach for developing STEM and PSHE enrichment are:

  • Getting a shared understanding and commitment to change and development
  • Building relationships and developing practices with individual schools
  • Implementation and evaluation

1. Student tutor support in exam preparations

One to one delivery in offering a more personalised, individualised curriculum, helpful for extension projects and homework assignments. The individualised curriculum offer makes cross curricular linked activities for pupils

Looking at a variety of key skill areas for pupils to progress through, including:

  • Problem Solving
  • Self-awareness
  • Decision Making
  • Creative Thinking
  • Lateral Thinking
  • Critical Thinking
  • Effective Communication
  • Presentation Skills
  • Influencing others

2. Individual pupil profiling

In-depth profiling for individual pupils needing one-to-one support and preparing targeted action plans for the individual. This also involves monitoring individual pupils’ progress.

3. Whole group profiling

Profiling a class against age-related expectations and identifying children needing additional one-to-one support through individual profiling, whose needs might have gone unnoticed during the school year.

4. Group action planning

Preparing for new emotional development and monitoring class and group progress

  • Pupils are to complete a set of ‘aptitude assessments’ (with our tutor) as a way of understanding the additional skillsets to undertake / develop for these emerging industry roles
  • ‘Futuristic applications’ workshops – combination of using Design Technology with other subjects e.g. MFL, to create hypothetical solutions. STEM focus in applied, private sector engagement

5. Personalised Learning Pathway, within STEM

  • Our exciting range of STEM based activities are perfect for extension projects and homework assignments.
  • Our Personalised Learning Pathway approach provides a great opportunity for individualised learning, recognising that every pupil/student is different. This ensures every pupil in class can be working on something different for their homework or in the classroom.
  • Pupils across all levels of education being guided through an individualised curriculum, based on their previous assessments from their teachers, by their own personal teaching assistant.
  • This places greater emphasis on individualised learning, recognising that every pupil/student is different, with a potential for a flipped classroom, with the parent as a facilitator, so that every child could be working on something different, be it a single subject or a cross curricular project.
  • The individualised curriculum makes cross curricular linked activities for pupils.
