Spotlight on Innovation

The importance of Innovation in STEM cannot be overestimated.

 

There are four basic steps in solving a problem:

  1. Defining the problem
  2. Generating alternatives – CREATIVITY
  3. Evaluating and selecting alternatives – DECISION MAKING
  4. Implementing solutions – PROJECT MANAGEMENT

 

By selecting a challenging theme, our Spotlight on Innovation programme teaches these skills through complete Problem Solving activities.

 

1. We select a broad Contextual Objectives, for example:

  • Extending Human Capacity
  • Responding to the Unexpected
  • Improving Living and Working spaces (environments and objects)
  • Securing a Sustainable Future
  • Protecting People and Products
  • Promoting Fitness and Wellbeing
  • Developing and Communicating Personal, Social, and Corporate Identity
  • Furthering emerging Medical Healthcare applications

2. We apply it on a Relevant and Progressive Context, for example:

  • The Home and School
  • Gardens and Playgrounds
  • The Local Community
  • Industry
  • The Wider Environment
  • Media and Entertainment
  • Arts and Culture
  • Sports, Health and Fitness

 

3. We select a challenge to be explored within the selected objective:

  • Providing a low cost Public Transport System
  • Personal Transport Solutions
  • Disability Aids
  • A Prejudice Campaign – any form of discrimination
  • Promoting Integration of Communities
  • Animal Rights
  • Regional Equality
  • Fund Raising Products
  • Water Collection and Distribution
  • Age Targeted Exercise Products
  • Developing full flavour Healthy Drinks
  • Product Reliability
  • Nutritional Management Systems

 

CASE STUDY: Paradigm Housing, Chesham, Buckinghamshire

Vantage Education worked with young adults to provide a highly specialised series of workshops to students who wanted to explore environmental housing and how the effects of socio economic conditions affected the mental health and emotional wellbeing of individuals.

Students worked together in small teams of between three to five and provided very inspiring solutions for promoting integration of communities together with a system for efficient road use and low cost public transport systems.
