Memory learning for new experiences

This service is based on providing an aspirational, motivational focus for pupils, who are currently disengaged with their curriculum studies.

The basis of this experiential training is for pupil’s to have a new understanding of a new sensory language that they can experience that normally they wouldn’t have access to (in their day to day surroundings), due to socioeconomic factors.

Pupils will be taught how to do new physical movements by first choosing a new activity that they wish to experientially learn, from a pre-designed list provided by Vantage Education. The list includes activities such as Skydiving, Yacht racing / Sailing, Scuba diving, Mountain climbing, Polo, Skiing, Flying a plane and Surfing.

 

This is broken down into two stages:

1. Virtual Reality (VR) introduction

  • Pupils acting out their physical movements using a VR headset of a pre-designed activity. Pupils will use professional VR headsets that will be provided by Vantage Education personnel. Pupils are also welcome to use mobile phone devices, with suggested software apps as well.

2. Pre-loading strategy introduction

  • The purpose of our one to one pre-loading strategies is to allow a child, children or class to have the prerequisite knowledge required to access a specific lesson or topic. By developing the use of pre-loading strategies, schools not only see children achieving and becoming more confident but they also build a bank of resources, develop a more effective use of TAs and engage all pupils in a session – which is a requirement for all lessons.
  • Pre-loading can be done with a whole class but is particularly beneficial for those children who have specific needs for example: behavioural complications, physical or motor difficulties, etc.
  • It involves developing a small package for the individual child (or small group) whereby 15-20 minutes is delivered by the teacher, TA or peer, to introduce the vocabulary, important key facts, strategies, diagrams, etc., to the child(ren), prior to the core delivery.
