3. Supplementary learning

Support for pupils who have missed out on vital education, due to Covid-19

Our supplementary learning for pupils is based on supporting teachers and pupils in providing ‘closing the gap’ interventions on national curriculum subjects. This is to ensure vital, critical learning is not lost from one academic year to another.

Our suplementary learning is student centered which means the pupil drives their own learning outside of school, ideally suited to lower ability pupils. The learner takes responsibility for their learning, with parent supervision, by setting appropriate goals. Our team of educationalists then monitor progress and ensure pupils stay motivated and challenged to meet those goals.

Our educators focus on the learner and help personalise learning for pupils in the following ways:

  1. Set personal learning plans – students will set personal plans and goals that are aligned with their interests, talents and passions. We encourage students to set these goals, monitor progress towards the goals, and modify or set new goals as appropriate.
  2. Encouraging self-assessment – this gives students opportunities to assess their own learning through self-reflection exercises. This is a great way for students to develop metacognitive, as well as cognitive, skills.
  3. Conducting frequent formative assessment – assessing students frequently but assessing them for their learning and as they learn.
  4. Use project-based learning – giving students personal choice and opportunities to pursue learning that reflects their personal interests.
  5. Increase parent involvement – encouraging parents to take an active role in their pupils education.

4. Learner profile – personalised learning

Support for pupils wanting to learn beyond the curriculum

We believe that learners must become key drivers in their learning, so that it becomes meaningful, valuable and personal to them. It is an approach which empowers learners by involving them in their learning at every stage: from setting their own targets to evaluating their progress.

By answering a number of questions we will be able to provide you with a personalised set of resources that better suit your child abilities and interests. Equally, you will be able to find out what their strengths and weaknesses are on a continual basis and to develop a unique curriculum for each of them that is constantly being refined.

This places greater emphasis on individualised learning, recognising that every pupil is different, with the parents as the facilitator(s), so that every child can be working on something different, be it a single subject or a cross curricular project.

Answer our questions to get your personalised materials

How do we achieve personalised learning in working with parents?

  • Pupils understand clearly what they are trying to learn, and what is expected of them
  • Parents are given feedback about the quality of their child’s work and how to make it better
  • Parents are given advice about how to go about making improvements
  • Parents are fully involved in deciding what needs to be done next

The benefits to the pupils include:

  • Providing further assistance in a child’s learning at home, which gives greater confidence and meaning to pupil’s future lives
  • A tool for parents who are experiencing some barriers when interacting with their children
  • Exercises that can be completed in a relaxed, playful environment
  • Reward badges to maintain motivation which are provided to every pupil that completes 6 modules (6 hours’ worth of content)
